SUMMARY:EXHIBITION: Wind Fragments
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\nWind Fragments\naurèce vettier\n13.8 – 11.9.2022\nTinos, Cyclades\nTinos Cultural Foundation in collaboration with aurèce vettier studio (Paris) present the exhibition Wind Fragments on Saturday 13 August 2022, curated by Alexia Pappa.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nThe French artist aurèce vettier participated in the Kinono Residency Programme in Tinos last spring where he worked with two raw materials from the natural environment of the island: wind and marble.\nFocusing on a practice which enables him to work between physical and virtual space, he built a wind measuring device, Deiopea, with which he recorded the wind in twenty different locations on the island. The direction of the wind, the speed in meters per second, and the coordinates of each location were recorded by the device and triggered an algorithm that converted the invisible and intangible winds into shapes.\nThe patterns imprinted by the wind itself with the help of the algorithm were then engraved by the artist on slabs of Tinian marble, thus approaching the Tinian’s long tradition and skill in marble carving.\n\nThe exhibition Wind Fragments presents the research, creative process, and artworks aurèce vettier produced entirely in Tinos, thus introducing the visitors to an original exploration of the island focused on the wind.\n \nOpening: Saturday 13 August 2022, at 20:30 \nExhibition duration: 13.8 – 11.9.2022 \nCultural Foundation of Tinos\nAkti G. Drossou, Chora, Tinos\nΤ. +30 22830 29070\n \nOpening hours:\nMonday, Wednesday, Thursday: 09:00 – 14:00\nFriday, Saturday, Sunday: 09:00 – 14:00 and 19:00 – 21:00\n\n \naurèce vettier is a studio founded by Paul Mouginot in 2019. The collective aims at understanding how relevant and meaningful interactions with machines and algorithms can be achieved, in order to push the boundaries of creative processes.\nThe works of aurèce vettier are the result of a number of back and forth trips between the “real” space in which we exist, where we can draw, paint, sculpt, break, erase; and the “data” space, where we can play with more dimensions than we, as humans, can cope with. In this virtual space, which can involve artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms or heavy mathematical processing, the studio expands the possibilities and explores new forms that can be projected back into reality.\nWhat is generated by AI and algorithms is not seen as finished works and shown as such, but rather as raw materials expanding the artist’s conceptual possibilities.\n\n\n\n \n
